Letter From the Founder

After eight years working in big beauty, I’d tried every product on the market and become rather picky. My daily regimen slimmed down to a few key products: dry shampoo, cleansing oil, deodorant, eye cream, skin balm, sunscreen. My medicine cabinet was stocked with the best brands, worked well, and made a nice shelfie. What I didn’t realize is that those pretty packages were full of poisons.

Eventually, my body started freaking out – rash-like acne, scalp blisters, flaking lips, oily eyelids, and more wrinkles (!) than usual. I looked for replacements in the natural beauty aisle and came away disappointed. Nothing felt long-lasting, there were always weird residues, and I constantly reeked of tea tree oil. As my beauty routine hit rock bottom, I had VIB Rouge status, a massive Amex bill and for the first time, no product suggestions for friends and family.

So, I quit my job and moved from New York to San Francisco. In a climate of constant sunshine and armed with a backyard full of citrus and herbs, I turned my boyfriend’s Vitamix into my own organic beauty lab. Using only fresh, high-quality ingredients, I started mixing lotions, potions and powders.

My skin cleared up and started glowing, my hair began bouncing again, and IMHO I look a bit younger. Whenever I got a request for a beauty reco, I mailed out one of my elixirs. The rave reviews started rolling in. I’d finally found formulas that met my impossible standards. Not to mention, my medicine cabinet has never looked so chic.

Is everything you make really natural?

Yes. I use the finest, freshest natural ingredients available. Freckles products are filled with herbs, clays, vitamins, and natural oils. There are no erroneous plastics, synthetic scents, or gross preservatives.

Are your products vegan?

Freckles is completely vegan with absolutely no animal testing. I only purchase from suppliers that are able to prove they are cruelty-free.

Where do you find your ingredients?

Our ingredients are purchased directly from their source, which sometimes means green clay from the French Alps or mint essential oil from the Berkeley farmer’s market. We make every effort to disclose provenance and description on each product webpage.

What is the shelf life of your products?

Because the products are truly all-natural and without preservatives, they have an average shelf life of 12-18 months. To keep products fresher for a longer time, take care to keep out of direct sunlight and at (or below) room temperature. Are your products made in the U.S.?

Yes, all of our products are made in a small factory in Oakland, California.

What does pre-order mean?

When you pre-order, we collect your email address and alert you when the product is ready (approx. 3-4 weeks). No credit card or payment information is needed to pre-order.

When will more products become available?

Products are only released when I are 110% sure the formula is perfect and when I can guarantee a top quality, ethical ingredient supply chain. I also want to make sure that I’m prioritizing the products you want most. Next in line for production: cleansing oil, all-natural deodorant, skin balm.
